A bunch of movies on the most famous hilltop in Istria! The magical medieval ambience of the little Town of Motovun has proved to be a magnificent stage for one of the most entertaining and relaxed film festivals worldwide. Visitors and movie guests confirm this each summer by returning to the Motovun Film Festival due to their fascination with its informal and carefree atmosphere.

Famous movie authors can be seen all day and night long on the streets of Motovun in their relaxed edition - in shorts and flip-flops, holding beer or a glass of a good Istrian wine in their hands. So far, among its countless guests, Motovun has hosted actors Jason Biggs, Jamie Bell and Terry Jones and filmmakers Paul Thomas Anderson, Stephen Daldry, Ken Russell and Ruben Ã–stlund. All of them, besides many film projections, also enjoy a splendid accompanying program. The festival is widely known for its concerts and parties, but also for its shows, exhibitions and performances held until early in the morning.

Actually, the programme in Motovun almost never stops as the morning projections in the old Motovun cinema and several other improvised ones start only a couple of hours after the night parties. Movies are shown until the evening on the picturesque Motovun square and at the nearby summer terrace.

The Motovun Film Festival is dedicated to the movies created by small cinematographers and independent productions, those who harder break through to cinemas and ordinary audiences. By showing as many different movies from as many different countries they wish to demonstrate that the world of the film is much wider and more colourful than it often seems.  This small avant-garde film festival celebrates the artistic originality and the authors who remained themselves and promotes unquestionable social values and questions world controversies.

This is appreciated by a large audience coming not only from surrounding places but from the whole world. The special value of the festival lies in the fact that it attracts many young movie fans that can stay in the festival camp. All of them enjoy the possibility of a whole-day direct interaction with moviemakers who can tell them firsthand all they want to know about the creation of their works. In any case, this is a very stimulating atmosphere for all those enjoying film and socialising in the magic of summer nights.
