Sentona’s Trail

The area of Labin hides many surprises not visible at first sight. Who would say that this magnificent path starts almost from the very centre of this picturesque town and leads to the beautiful coastline of the tourist pearl of Rabac? And what a path! The 3 km of Sentona's Trail pass through intact nature and the trail has been proclaimed a protected landscape due to its beauty. Appropriately enough, the trail has been named after Sentona, the patroness of travelers, a symbol of protection, beauty and fertility. This Liburnian goddess was worshipped in the area of Labin and its surroundings in ancient times, as evidenced by the Roman votive monuments dating back to the 1st and 2nd century displayed at the National Museum in Labin.

Sentona reveals many hidden charms of its natural surroundings. Shortly after setting off for a walk along this trail, you can hear rushing water from the streams and rapids crossing the trail. Seven bridges across the streams add a special note to the magic ambience of this divine setting. The greatest attractions are several metres high waterfalls flowing over the winding limestone barriers, and the highest one pours into a magnificent turquoise lake at the bottom of the trail. The mysterious Negri Cave also captures attention by the spring welling up from inside of the rock. Legend has it that once upon a time a giant lived in the cave, and yet, his remains have not been found. Nearby Pećine, the highest waterfall, there are remains of what used to be an old mill powered by the spring water. The trail, endowed in the beauty and fragrance of Mediterranean vegetation, ends in Maslinica Bay in the very town of Rabac.

The trail can also be taken in the opposite direction, that is, from Rabac to Labin, with a mild ascend. Although the trail is not demanding, hiking boots or comfortable sports shoes are recommended. In Labin, the trail starts from the Tourist Board office, whereas in Rabac, it starts from Maslinica Bay. Either way, the Sentona's Trail is a magnificent combination for lovers of nature, active vacation, cultural heritage and sea joys.
